Just for the beauty of it #02

I have no words
for these words

One minute you’re marvelling at someone who invented a nanotechnology mesh in his garage that could potentially rid the world of unsafe drinking water. The next you’re crying at a former Sudanese child soldier singing about the school he wants to build in memory of the aid worker who rescued him. Emmanuel Jal is now a hip-hop artist campaigning for religious tolerance; Malawi’s William Kamkwamba found a library book and built a rickety windmill so his family home could have four lights and a radio. As someone from the ad camp, I couldn’t help feeling that despite being humbled and inspired by all the theory, demonstrations and artworks, the things that cut through the most were the human stories. Advertising has the power to tell amazing stories on behalf of brands, but it needs to stop fishing from the same pool. Maybe part of the problem is that it forces itself to think inside boxes. That’s why the big award shows are defined by media categories. Why can’t we reward the best ideas in product categories instead, irrespective of channel, platform, gadget or surface or whether they’re made in a Hollywood movie studio or a scientist’s garage?

A good idea not only comes from anywhere, it goes everywhere. It’s time to leave the corner office and come blinking into the light… /

After some thoughts, the words came dripping in. What Paul Kemp-Roberston describes is his experience with TED-Talks. Well, I think i’ve seen the picture now, thanks to #picnic09.
The presentations today, the tweets, the films, the photo’s, I’ve done my share of sharing, of distributing the ideas, crafts, projects, inspiration, stories. I was blinking into the light:-)
Putting those two together, I looked for a new connection with my current actions. Could this enhance the live experience I’m creating right now for ten’s of people at the first level.
    Doetinchem? Wearnhem?
Yes, in both cities we could use an award-website for creative ideas.
