The energy dilemma

Vorige week had ik een oriënterend gesprek met docenten van verschillende opleidingen, waaronder autotechniek aan de HAN om een nieuwe minor over innovatie op te zetten. Lector Frans Nauta had de bijeenkomst georganiseerd.

Mij was een video bijgebleven over de race om de auto van de toekomst. Een melodrama. In 1970 heeft Ford al een auto op de weg gehad die 10 keer zuiniger was dan de auto’s die nu rondrijden. Fabrikanten boycotten stelselmatig ECHTE innovatie. Innovatie richt zich slechts op technische aspecten die meer omzet genereren.

De auto moet opnieuw uitgevonden worden, is de conclusie van de auteurs van ZOOM.

Ik denk dat de hele auto-industrie opnieuw uitgevonden moet worden! Ik denk dat de vicieuze cirkel tussen autofabrikanten en oliemaatschappijen doorbroken moet worden.

In ZOOM, we are told that the clean cars of the future can help speed the world toward a more sensible approach to transportation. The snap, say the authors, is getting from here to there. Big Oil clearly has no interest in seeing its main product fall by the wayside, and the car industry in Detroit has shown few signs of real innovation or long-term vision. All this said, once can see the dynamics of the ‘creative destruction’ process on the horizon in a growing band of entrepreneurs, innovators and outsiders who are working furiously to spur the kinds of innovations that the established industry powers, Big Autos and Big Oil, simply refuse to develop.

The authors conclude their book by stating that if we see that oil is the real problem at the heart of our energy and environmental dilemma, then cars can be part of the solution. Clean cars of the future allow one to see a path to life after oil. As one former OPEC sheik once wisely observed, the Stone Age didn’t come to an end because the world ran out of stones.

Het lijkt me wel wat om in Arnhem de basis te leggen voor de belangrijkste revolutie sinds de industriële revolutie, de reële revolutie.
Een revolutie die later gezien zal worden als de 180 graden-draai in de bewustwording van de mens in geïndustrialiseerde landen. Een tijd waarin nieuwe idealen weer hun weg vonden, een tijd waarin kennis, vaardigheden, contacten, techniek, passie op hun plek vielen in projecten die de wereld verbeterden.

Te beginnen met het doorbreken van het energie dilemma.
Wie doet mee? We gaan geen auto van de toekomst bouwen, we gaan de auto van vandaag bouwen, energiezuinig, a la ikea, modulair, zelf in elkaar knutselen, bouwpakket, te bestellen via internet, ….
